Website Design & Development

“Simple solutions seldom are. It takes a very unusual mind to undertake analysis of the obvious."
Alfred North Whitehead
, English mathematician and philosopher (1861-1947)

Designing a new website – even redesigning an existing site – can be overwhelming. AcuteVisibility|BMO is experienced at making the process painless, seamless and expeditious.

Getting Started

AcuteVisibility has been through this process a hundred times, so we have a well-developed process that keeps things simple and keeps the project on track.  We start by asking a lot of questions to get to the bare bones of what you need your website to DO for you.

What competitive or compatible sites have you seen that you like? What draws you to them?

Will it be a primarily informational site (“brochure-ware”)?

Will you be selling products online? Ecommerce sites need a shopping cart application to be integrated at the front end. And choosing the right shopping cart for your site will depend on a lot of factors, such as number of products, pricing variability, etc.

Do you need to collect or distribute a lot of information (what database capabilities will be needed?)

Do you want to generate and collect leads? If Lead Generation is a major objective, we’ll want to create a compelling offer and integrate a lead gen form into the site structure.

Will you publish a newsletter, a forum or a blog? Or make downloadable documents available?

Will you be incorporating video or podcasts? Will they be open access (free) or paid content?

Do you want to create some sort of community or network?

Do you want to provide an onsite Search function?

Will you be selling display advertising on your site? Selling text links? Or incorporate a content network or advertising network?

Will you be conducting surveys?

Do you expect to update or add content frequently?

The answers to these questions will help determine what functionality you need in your site. As with so many things, it’s generally more efficient to build features in from the beginning than to retrofit later. However, you can always start small. In any case, AVbmo will ensure that the foundation we create will allow you to add supplemental functionality without starting from scratch.

Functionality

Next we assist in defining your site map, technical requirements and navigational structure. We’ll make recommendations about technologies and third party solutions that will facilitate producing and maintaining the site. And we’ll ensure the site functionality meets or exceeds the project specifications from day one. The AVbmo team can help identify the best Shopping Cart application to use, which Live Chat module will work best for your purposes, and how to integrate Search into your site. We have experience with a broad base of solutions that are available to give your site the most robust functionality possible, without trying to reinvent the proverbial wheel. And without investing unnecessarily at the front end.

Because there’s nothing more frustrating than realizing you need a new website six months after you finish the last one.

Design Considerations

The AcuteVisibility team will work closely with you to determine the look and feel you want for your site. One way we do this is by benchmarking other websites that you do or don’t like. We focus on establishing clear objectives for the site, and managing expectations through extensive communication and interaction.

Throughout the design process, we’ll talk about the opportunities inherent in each concept, as well as the limitations or compromises. We have been through this process a thousand times, and we use that experience to help guide you and educate you. So you end up with a website that delivers aesthetically AND functionally.
